Film awards season is in full swing. The red carpet has been rolled out already this year for the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards – next up, will be the 77th iteration of the prodigious EE BAFTA Film Awards. Whether you’re a film fanatic or just love the glitz and glamour of an awards ceremony, here’s everything you need to know about the 2024 BAFTAs.
When and where is the ceremony?
The 2024 BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will be taking place on Sunday 18 February at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre.
How can I watch the 2024 BAFTAs?
The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC One, from 7-9pm (GMT) and will be available to stream via BBC iPlayer and BritBox. You can also catch the pre-ceremony red carpet events on the BAFTA YouTube channel.
Who is hosting?
This year’s host is the multi-award-winning Scottish actor David Tennant. He has pledged to deliver an “evening of generosity and joy,” a change from the usual trend of making jokes at the expense of celebrities that has become popular at film industry award ceremonies.
Who is performing at the BAFTAs 2024?
Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor will perform her iconic hit ‘Murder on the Dancefloor,’ which has resurged in the charts after featuring in the end scenes of Emerald Fennell’s dark comedy Saltburn.
Hannah Waddingham is set to deliver a heartfelt tribute and a reflection on an incredible year of film.
Who are the 2024 BAFTA nominees?
With 13 nominations, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is the one to beat. The film about scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer’s role in the development of the atomic bomb, has been nominated for Best Film and Best Director as well as Best Supporting Actress for Emily Blunt, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr.
Dark comedy Poor Things from filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos is also competing for Best Film and has 11 nominations in total, including Best Actress for star Emma Stone and Best Adapted Screenplay. While Greta Gerwig’s box-office hit Barbie has been nominated in five categories, including Best Leading Actress for Margot Robbie and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling.
The nominees for the Rising Star Award, which is sponsored by EE and is the only award that’s voted on by the public, are Fair Play lead actress Phoebe Dynevor, Saltburn star Jacob Elordi, Mia McKenna-Bruce (How to Have Sex), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), and Ayo Edebiri (Bottoms).
