The Christmas special
7 December 2022
Who doesn’t love a Christmas special? What a joy to curl up on the sofa and watch an extended version of our favourite TV show or to see celebrities turning their hands to something completely outside of their comfort zone. This festive season doesn’t disappoint. Here are a few shows we’re selected from the many specials that are scheduled for the upcoming festive season.
The Great British Sewing Bee Celebrity Christmas Special features Johannes Radebe, Natalie Cassidy, Rosie Ramsey and Penny Lancaster putting their sewing skills to the test, creating novelty baby outfits and pop star-inspired fancy dress. We can’t wait to see who will be able to follow those tricky patterns and transform unwanted materials into something fabulously festive.
Shakespeare and Hathaway are an unlikely pairing of Ex-Detective Inspector Frank Hathaway and former client Luella Shakespeare. Together with employee Sebastian Brudenell, a RADA-trained actor, the team investigates crimes in Stratford-upon-Avon. In the Christmas special, Frank and Lu are hired to unmask a mysterious figure who threatens to destroy the Christmas fair, while Sebastian is faced with his first solo case – but it doesn’t go as planned.
Lucille, Trixie and Nancy return to our TV screens with a Call the Midwife Christmas Special. As Christmas approaches, life starts to return to normal in Poplar after a terrible train crash; Trixie arrives from Portofino; and a festive talent show is organised to raise money for families affected by the train crash. Tissues at the ready, we just know there will be tears!
ITV will celebrate 160 years of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home with a one-off episode of the Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs Christmas Special. The episode will feature Her Majesty The Queen Consort, a long term supporter of Battersea and self-confessed dog-lover, in her previous role as The Duchess of Cornwall, hosting a celebratory event at Clarence House and later helping Paul care for some of the abandoned dogs searching for a new forever home.
After an exciting third series of All Creatures Great and Small, we can barely wait for the Christmas special. With the latest series overshadowed by World War Two, we are excited to see what the Christmas special has in store for James Herriot and the gang. Helen and James will share their first Christmas together as a married couple, and Trista will be on hand to annoy older brother Siegfried Farnon we are sure.
