The leaves are turning colour, the nights are growing longer and many of our favourite TV shows are back on screens. From Bake Off to Big Brother, we’ve put together a selection of returning shows that you won’t want to miss this Autumn.

1. Strictly Come Dancing (BBC One, from 16 September 2023)

Once again, Saturday evenings are for samba, salsa, and sequins — Strictly is back with fifteen more famous faces taking part in the BBC’s glitzy dance competition. Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke have returned to the ballroom as judges. Who will hold up the glitterball trophy this year?

2. Taskmaster (Channel 4, from 21 September 2023)

Taskmaster Greg Davies and assistant (Little) Alex Horne have returned with more surreal tasks for comedy stars and celebrities. As always, viewers can expect the absurd as the contestants battle it out to impress the Taskmaster.

3. The Great British Bake Off (Channel 4, from 26 September 2023)

The nation’s favourite baking series has returned for its fourteenth season. This Morning star Alison Hammond has joined Noel Fielding as co-host, while Paul and Prue put a new batch of bakers to the test in the tent. Whose bakes will rise to the top, and whose will crumble?

4. Big Brother (ITV2 and ITVX, from 8 October)

Big Brother is back after five years off air. Hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, the reality show sees a group of strangers take up residence in the Big Brother house for up to six weeks. With every move monitored, weekly housemate eliminations and a life-changing cash prize at stake, high drama is guaranteed.

5. Time (BBC One, release date TBC)

Jimmy McGovern’s devastating prison drama, starring Sean Bean, was a big winner at the BAFTAs last year, so its return for a second series comes as no surprise. This time, the action will be set in a women’s prison, with Jodie Whittaker, Bella Ramsey, and Tamara Lawrance portraying inmates. Keep an eye out for news of the series’ release date coming soon.

6. I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! (ITV1 and ITVX, release date TBC)

You’ll be able to watch a new line-up of celebrity campmates brave bushtucker trials in the jungle later this year. The contestants competing for the King or Queen of the Jungle crown have yet to be announced, but viewers can anticipate the return of long-term hosts Ant and Dec.

7. Doctor Who (BBC One, November)

David Tennant and Catherine Tate will reprise their roles in a trio of special episodes to celebrate Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary and introduce Ncuti Gatwa as the latest incarnation of the iconic Time Lord. The series release date has yet to be announced, but confirmed guest stars include Neil Patrick Harris, Ruth Madeley, and a posthumous appearance from Bernard Cribbins.

8. The Voice UK (ITV1 and ITVX, release date TBC)

The four red chairs will soon be spinning again as the hit singing competition The Voice UK returns for its twelfth series later this Autumn. Anne-Marie, Olly Murs, Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am continue as coaches, and Emma Willis will resume her role as host. Viewers can anticipate some format changes this year, including an enhanced grand prize, which will encompass a recording contract with Universal Records, a £50,000 cash reward and a luxurious holiday.

9. Vigil (BBC One, release date TBC)

Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie will return for a new investigation in Vigil’s second series. In this six-part series, Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) will enter the secret world of drone warfare to catch a killer. Watch out for this thrilling drama later this year.

10. Survivor UK (BBC One, release date TBC)

And, if you’re looking for more 00s nostalgia, get ready for a reboot that will offer the ultimate test of endurance as the BBC revives the castaway competition Survivor UK. The show, which has become a global sensation, initially failed to captivate UK audiences back in 2002, but hopes are high for a refreshed format hosted by comedian Joel Dommett.
